Novus Annus- New Year

New year. New people. New faces. New places.
People make new years resolutions every year, and seldom keep them. I am one of those people. I will eat healthy--'what? mom made cookies?'  I will run everyday--'what if i just skip today..' I will blog everyday...(now there's a new one). This year I wanted to try something different. I will love--yes, even that person. I will forgive--no, don't hold grudges. It's a test, it will be hard. But hopefully this is one resolution that I can keep. And thankfully I have not only people to keep me accountable, but a song.   It constantly reminds me how I need to stay in love.
Take a listen!

Tempus- Time

I wish I had more time. But I guess everyone does, don't they? Time to be spent with the people they love, time to spend by themselves, time to work, time to play. Since I've started spending time on Pinterest, I've been wishing for more. Funny how that works out. I would love to be able to make the things I'm pinning. But I find I don't have the time.
Time is an interesting thing. In the words of the Doctor,

"People assume that time is a strict progression of cause to effect,
but actually from a non-linear, non-subjuctive view point- it's more like a
big ball of wibbly wobbly... time-y wimey... stuff."

Well said Doc, well said. Time is a part of our daily lives, it's what controls what we do and when we do it. The important thing to do with time is know how to manage it. To make time for this and for that.  Time to spend with friends or family, at work or play. So maybe my problem isn't that there's not enough time, but that I'm spending my time on other things.

"All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us."

Lorem Iterum- Hello Again

It's been so long since I last blogged. Things are slowing down and I think I now have the time! I am full swing into my senior year of high school. How exciting! Cross country is done forever (hence the picture- @ regionals). We even made our coaches emotional at the end of the year shindig, now that's an accomplishment. I've taken my last ACT. I've figured out where I'm going to college and what I'm majoring in. My stress level is about a 3 (curse you spanish and english homework...) . I think that I will revamp my blog, make it a little more up to date. Christmas break is coming up, more blogging to come..

Muniátur- Peaceful Times

It's amazing how quickly one get used to warm weather when one can't escape it. Driving down I-65, watching the thermometer rise the farther south you drive. It's fun. And then you arrive and you are completely shot from spending 22+ hours in a vehicle. All you do now is sleep, eat, swim, read, and sit in the sun.  I love vacation. It's a chance to get away from the everyday and just relax and not think. Every night there's a sunset and every night the sunset is even more stunning then the one before. And you think to yourself, 'Self, that is an amazing sample of God's creativity.Go
crazy.' And so you stand looking at the sunset for the few minutes until it completely disappears beneath the watery horizon. Then you make your way back up to your room and have say, strawberry shortcake for dessert? Oh how delicious. You have a tickle fest with your cousins and say goodbye. Then you run to the bathroom to take a shower, because not only do you feel gross, but condos have amazing showers. They stay hot and have good water pressure. If you can't enjoy the shower of the condo, there's something wrong (or you just have a very nice shower at home). You proceed to go to bed, but don't fall asleep right away because your sister is making you laugh. Oh the joys of vacation, when you don't need to worry about going to bed at a decent hour because there is no school or work calling your name at 6 A.M. It's a wonderful feeling. Then you wake up (whenever YOU want). You can go run, swim, whatever you please, because it's vacation. It's a time to relax, a time to sit and enjoy the life God has given you.

p.s. this was supposed to be posted during Spring Break i.e. first week of April....

Benedictus Simpliciter - Simply Blessed

I am a blessed young woman. I have an amazing, loving family. I have wonderful, caring friends. I have a simply fantastic boyfriend who knows just what to do to make things better. I have many possessions on this earth. All these have been given to me by my heavenly Father, and boy, is he good. It's amazing really,  when I think about how fortunate and how tremendously blessed I am. God has given me so much, how does one repay such generosity?

Dum Dulcedine- So Long Sweets

Lent. It's one of those things where people say that they are going to give up something. Kind of like new years resolutions, only religious. People give up facebook, texting, television, the computer as a whole, pop, or as I am doing, sweets. (mainly candy, cookies, cakes, ice cream- you know, the good stuff.) In chapel at school today we had Father Dennis from a church in GR. I was pumped to begin with just with the fact that I HAD to call this guy Father. It's like a rule. How good. But anyway, he talked about how the things that we give up for lent aren't always bad things, they can be good too! He mentioned that in the Catholic church, they give up meat for the 40 days of lent, except Fridays, when they eat fish. People can go to the church to get fish, then knowingly he said, "they all come to church for the halibut." You may not get this right away, but say 'halibut' out loud to yourself a couple times. If you're still missing it, the syllables, hal-i-but relate to the words hell-of-it, respectively, if you say them quickly, which is what that dear Father did. It was quite amusing and yes, I did continue to laugh to myself throughout the entire day. But back to my point, the things you give up for lent aren't necessarily bad; but you need to focus on how that changes what you are doing in some way. If you're giving up facebook, what are you doing with the time that you would have spent on the computer? If you're giving up sweets (ahem), what are you going to do with the money that you save from purchasing those delicious, but oh so unhealthy, morsels? So the moral of the story is, it's not what you give up, but how you use the time or resources that come from the giving up.

Valentiam Gestatio- The Value of a Prominade

$60. Well, $65 to be exact. The amount of money the two prom dresses I own have cost me. Total. Where in the world did you find those ridiculous deals you ask? I'll tell you. A consignment shop, and a thrift store. The first dress was $45, and is the color 'trout.' (Yes, I did make up that color) That one was from the consignment shop. The second, and more recent, was purchased at a thrift store. It's a royal purple and was originally tagged for $170. I got it for $20. BAM. Take that corporate stores that sell dresses for hundreds of dollars. To be honest, I don't really understand why someone would spend $150-$200 dollars on a dress that they are going to wear once. For about 6 hours. At your high school prom. But, that's just me.
